Working at BlackBerry’s headquarters in Waterloo, ON, the Senior Financial Reporting Analyst will join a team of dynamic and experienced accounting professionals in external financial reporting and technical accounting. Reporting to the Director Financial Reporting, you will have a critical role in the preparation of the Financial Statements and Notes, and Management Discussion and Analysis. The position will lead/assist in other accounting and reporting related ad-hoc projects, including researching technical accounting guidance related to new accounting pronouncements and complex transactions, writing accounting position memos and benchmarking industry financial reporting practices.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Responsible for the end-to-end process of the drafting of the Company’s Financial Statements, and Management Discussion & Analysis, including discussions with the Company’s external audit firm, legal counsel, and Investor Relations departments to ensure all information released externally is complete, accurate, and appropriate.
- Ensure the above meets all disclosure requirements and conform to industry standards.
- Conduct thoroughly researched and supported accounting analyses on routine and non-routine transactions to determine the proper treatment under US GAAP.
- Monitor standard-setting activities and research new guidance for impact to the company’s accounting treatments.
- Responsible for the Company’s equity related filings with regulatory authorities and the accounting for stock compensation
- Conduct regular reviews of the company’s existing accounting policies and work with stakeholders to update the policy structure.
- Responsible for the monthly and quarterly accounting of the company’s treasury activities such as investment activity and hedging, through the company’s treasury management system.
- Serve as a technical resource on project teams to ensure proper accounting under new systems and initiatives and identify new accounting policy requirements early.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Canadian or United States CPA designation is required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related major is required.
- 3+ years’ experience including public accounting experience is preferred.
- Strong understanding of and ability to research US GAAP.
- Experience with operating in a public Company environment and dealing with regulatory requirements, with knowledge of applicable S-X regulations for external reporting.
- Strong attention to detail with financial analysis skills and a demonstrated ability to solve problems both independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, and the ability to interact professionally with all levels of the company across multiple functions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced spreadsheet modeling.
